PHILOMÈNE

View The Work I Performing Arts I Philomène Amougou I London

"My art is grounded in the belief of one universal energy which runs through everything: from insect to man, from man to spectre, from spectre to plant, from plant to galaxy. My works are the irrigation veins of this universal fluid. Through them ascend the ancestral sap, the original beliefs, the primordial accumulations, the unconscious thoughts that animate the world" - Ana Mendita. Irrigated by Mother Earth, as a seed in the soil, which grows out of the river and sun. I invite you to discover this virtual cabinet of curiosity through the root's of my flourishing practice.

'The Top 5 exhibitions to see this Summer'

'A body is curled up and appears to be floating as we see a ‘birth’ take place across the windows of this Mayfair gallery. It’s a beautiful series of works that may be seen by all who walk by the gallery. The window project is a great opportunity to engage with those who may not step inside galleries and I was privileged to be part of this year’s judging panel for selecting this work.' ABOUT

'Paris-born with Cameroonian roots, Philomène is a full media Artist who channels natural forces through her work and herself. From drawing, painting, sculpture, performance, installation to film-making she connects emperical reality with a parallel mythic world that probes the dilemmas and traumas that shape our time. This era she has named ‘Toxic Germ’. Although lethal the germ creates as well, a gyroscopic motion who’s source of impetus comes from the biological imbalance between environment and society in the present age. With her past themes of feminine identity, ritual and displaced Afro-European artist and woman,Philomène creates as if to dig to the earth’s core and she mines her soul to reconcile the creative and the destructive forces and avoid self- annihilation. While her living sculptures performs as an extension of herself, fertilize and vary hybrid mutations, Philomène hair-brush share stories of rituals for the ritually deprived and those deprived of ritual. From staged performance to filmmacking, she use the film medium as an alchemical process to create Mystical and Surrealist imagery. Philomène merge the cells of her arts into a bio-anatomical organism by process of Alchemy Art and a reconsiliation of mankind and nature' Pollock fine Art Gallery
