The Earth Change Makers, Interview 2021

"In celebration of Earth Day 2021, and to mark the launch of The Earth Issue Agency, we are honoured to shine the light on 12 young activists, change makers and forward-thinkers who are paving the way for a better tomorrow. Our selected candidates range from emerging artists to youth politicians to climate activists, community initiators and social-impact entrepreneurs. In common, they share a mission to spark positive change within their spheres of work, and have put their visions to action through meaningful initiatives. This interview captures an unique conversation about the role of intersectionality within sustainability activism. An intersectional framework recognizes that people and the planet are intrinsically linked, and that representation, racial justice, gender equality, accessibility, and the fight against various modes of socio-economic oppression are crucial to any discussion about the environment" The Earth Issue Agency.

To what extent do you see your artistic work as activism?

P.A.: I never thought of myself as being an Activist, Nevertheless I recently started to embody that concept when I realised that my work was standing for justice, Awareness, with a strong participation in ‘Global Awakening’ and a desire to make a change in society towards a greater harmony. From that, I see my work as an extent of Environmental Artivism, a movement that draws an intersection between Art, Activism and Environmental concern.  It is art as reform, a  Statement  that reflects a climate of tension between natural Beauty and ‘Dystopian Social Cacophony’ to serve with meaning and intention, engage and create opportunities for new reflections. - Philomène

These works play on the direct participatory relationship between filmmaker and performer, through a macroscopic observation of a floating body; free of perspective and in an embryonic state reminiscing on the struggle of confinement.' Article added 30.06.2020 Gazelli Art House.

'The Top 5 exhibitions to see this Summer'

'A body is curled up and appears to be floating as we see a ‘birth’ take place across the windows of this Mayfair gallery. It’s a beautiful series of works that may be seen by all who walk by the gallery. The window project is a great opportunity to engage with those who may not step inside galleries and I was privileged to be part of this year’s judging panel for selecting this work.' PRESS RELEASE

'Anticipating SAMO, No More Poetry is the best-known quote by Andy Warhol on the subject; a perfect three word koan that decimates both an ending and a new epoch. Michelangelo wrote poems with  titles like " Joy May Kill " and lines like "TOO much good like no less then misery, May kill a man ...." In 1951 Jackson Pollock took pages of drawings executed during psychiatric sessions, and glued them to an amorphous plaster sculpture, that was later destroyed as he tried to stuff it into the trunk of his Cadillac; a passage worthy of Dante. No More Poetry will explore the polymath nature of writers and artists at home with synesthesia.' Pollock Fine Art, 25th Artnet news

PRESS RELEASE

PHILOMÈNE RESPONSE to an ART WORLD MELTDOWN’

'Inspired by anatomy, biological mutation and pathology GERM CELL Quarantine’2020 is a multi-media recorded performance, that depicts the molecular process of pandemic and contamination, via morphology that is both corporal and environmental. A domestic living cell. Anticipating the post-covid era, the performers stage their dystopian reality, a mirror to our environment.  Are we just here to become post-human specimens for experimentation?. This cine-macroscopic query of the artists in a quarantine studio, offers a metaphor of the human organism in stasis. Like cells in the immune system, performers become hybrid ‘biological warriors’ and fight each other. Within the struggle of confinement, the perception of space become an analogy for looking inward and suggests that absolute attention to the physical world can lead to a path beyond phenomenology. In crisis imprisoned performers try to find space within a populated cell, growing into a biodiverse system with observable mutations. Trace themes of identity, rituals and displacement by the Afro-European artists Philomène and Cedric Mizero, showa single poetic response and spreads their unique perspective during this unprecedented moment in modern history.'
